Head of Product Engineering, Deputy CTO
Sonru, Dublin, 2015-2020

Sonru provides candidate video-interviewing to large clients with its enterprise-grade SaaS platform. I manage a team of 8 developers across several territories. We build, maintain and deploy Sonru's suite of Rails and native apps. Originally recruited as a senior developer, and subsequently promoted to team lead, development manager, and then to head of product engineering/deputy CTO.

Chief Technology Officer
Learn Signal, Dublin, 2014-2015

Lead the redesign project for the company's e-learning platform. Then, completely rebuilt the platform from the ground up in Rails. The system includes content management, content delivery, customer subscriptions, payment integration, user activity tracking, marketing intelligence and other API integrations. In addition to leading the development, I was also responsible for infrastructure setup and maintenance, security audits, and migration of the previous system's data. The platform was launched in March 2015.

Cluey Systems logo

Product Lead, Rails Developer
Cluey Systems, 2013-2014

Recruited as a junior/mid level Ruby on Rails developer, my position evolved into being responsible for the back-office and API development, deployment of new features, performance improvements and bug fixes. We used agile to manage our processes, and we used test-driven development to keep everything predictable and on-track. Cluey exited with a transaction to a global financial institution, a process in which I provided technical due-diligence support.

Trezur logo

Chief Operations Officer
Trezur, Dublin, 2010-2011

During my time as COO of Trezur, I designed and built my first commercial Rails app. It delivered Trezur's website, customer sign-up and payment processing, software license key management, and provided the API for the company's Windows app. The Rails app interfaced with our end-user software app, song lyrics providers, and Paypal.

Recent Side Projects

Current projects are still in stealth mode, but the examples below are indicative of my recent work.

Ker4Print

Ker4Print is a digital printing company. I built its web app in Rails to provide an e-commerce service, a pricing model, production job tracking, and customer relationship management platform all-in one. Future plans include printing machine integration and accounting software.

DevGrads

This began as a college project while at NCI. I acted as the senior developer in a team of three. The Rails app that we built is a Q & A / forum / blog platform for software development students. Our key goal was to build a functioning secure reliable app as a portfolio project app.

Wedding Bus Hire

This company offers vintage bus hire services for special occasions. I built their Rails app to provide them with web page content management, a customer enquiry form and enquiry tracking, and activity management functionality.

ICT Management

During my career as a finance and general manager, I was almost always also responsible for day to day management of ICT resources and projects. Here are some examples.

ERP Systems

At All Ireland Group, I was responsible for the selection, implementation and on-going management of an enterprise-grade ERP system throughout the organisation. Later, the ERP system was integrated into a dedicated enterprise grade warehouse management system.

Accounting Systems

At All Ireland Group, Trade Exchange Network, I selected and implemented the accounting systems (CODA and Sage), including the design of the chart of accounts and reporting structures. At Irish Permanent (now Permanent TSB), I redesigned the chart of accounts for the top company and dramatically expanded the range of reporting that the organisation could obtain.

Infrastructure

At a number of positions, I was responsible for selection, procurement, hands-on implementation and ongoing support of active network devices, cable infrastructure, radio data and voice infrastructure, telecoms services, servers, desktops, warehouse / hostile environment devices, stock market data services, printing equipment, and ISP services.
